Paths to QUALITY™ - Indiana’s Child Care Quality Rating and Improvement System

Research shows that high quality early childhood programs prepare children for future success in school, work and life. From birth through age 5 is the most important time for growth of the human brain. A child’s brain develops in response to the child’s experiences by building neurological networks in reaction to the environment.

Early Learning Indiana

Early Learning Indiana is on a mission to ensure every child is empowered with essential skills to thrive in kindergarten and beyond. We do this by operating high-quality early learning centers, helping families find quality child care, partnering with teachers and providers to improve program quality and advocating for greater access to early educational opportunities for all Hoosier families.

Indiana Early Learning Standards

Indiana’s Early Learning Standards are a developmental continuum and align to the 2023 Indiana Academic Standards. The standards provide core elements that children should achieve from birth to age five to be ready for future success. The standards set forth common language and expectations for all staff working in early care and education. In 2023 the standards were revised based on research, feedback from practitioners, and work from professionals with expertise in each specialized area, and formally adopted by the State Board of Education.
